Hey guys, I am really excited to be back with a sequel. Now usually they say sequel aren’t great, but believe me you will love this one as it is filled with pop-culture referrence and the real use of the mentioned concepts in real life. Yup, nothing more exciting than that.

But before we begin if you are new do read the “Colorbook Part-1” first.

Color Wheel

Color Wheel

When you put primary, secondary and tertiary colors all together, you get what's called a Color Wheel. Every color imaginable is present in the Color Wheel.

Color Picker

Color Picker

The color picker is very identical to the color wheel and it allows you to pick colors for your artwork/designs.

Color Harmonies

Let’s learn how colors can work together to form color schemes and these are called Color Harmonies.

Warm and Cool Colors

Warm & Cool Colors

Looking at the above picture red, orange, and yellow are warm colors while green, blue, and violet are cool colors on the other side. Warm Colors gives you the emotion of summer days and heat while Cool Colors gives you the emotion of cooler months or cool mood. If you are using cool colors and want to emphasize a particular feature/effect or design, try to add a spark of warm color just to it.

Complementary Colors

Blade Runner 2049 Movie Poster

Complementary Colors are directly opposite to each other on the color wheel, as you can see in the above movie poster a lighter blue with a strong red color representation. The idea is not to go for a 50–50 split as it can make the graphic difficult to look at, instead making one color more dominant than the other.

Analogous Colors

Kung Fu Panda Movie Poster

Analogous colors are those colors that are aligned next to each other on the color wheel, for eg- red, yellow, and orange that are all aligned next to each other on the color wheel. You can see in the above poster how it looks when these three colors are used.
An analogous scheme provides a sense of calmness and knowledge without too much excitement. In order to make a scheme always use three colors with one dominant and two used as accents.

Monochromatic Colors

The Grand Budapest Hotel

A Monochromatic scheme takes one single hue and uses colors of different shades, tones, and tints. The above poster of “The Grand Budapest Hotel” is a perfect example where the artist took one color pink and then kept altering it to use it in the entire design.

Triadic Colors

Aladdin Movie Poster

Triadic Colors is taking three colors from an equilateral triangle from the color wheel as you see in the above poster example. With a Triadic color, you are guaranteed to have 2 warm colors and 1 cool color or 1 warm color and 2 cool colors. It also means that you have either 3 primary colors, 3 secondary colors, or 3 tertiary colors.

Split Complementary

The New Yorker Magazine

Split Complementary have three colors too, they begin with a primary color and then splits into two more complementary colors. it can be perfectly explained by showing the above poster and the split on the color wheel.

Tetradic Color

Tetradic harmonies take 2 sets of color and put them all together in one single graphic. For getting a perfect harmony with tetradic experiment with the sets of colors before you finally decide. See the above example for a visual understanding.

Square Colors

Inside Out Movie Poster

They are exactly how they sound, four colors all equal distances from one another. This scheme can either be powerful or overwhelming. While using this harmony stick to 80% dominant color with 20% accent colors. A you can see above in the Disney’s Inside Out movie poster.
